We're not comfortable until you are.

There are several situations where central air systems are not suitable for heating and cooling. If you live in an older home that does not have central air conditioning, the architecture may not be conducive to installing ducts. It may be difficult to connect a room addition or a garage conversion to an existing ducted system. Ductless mini-split units can solve the problem.

How Do Ductless Air Conditioning Systems Work?

Just like ducted systems, ductless mini-splits deliver conditioned air by using a compressor and blower units. The compressor is located outside and is connected to indoor blower cassettes by a conduit routed through the wall. The conduit contains separate tubing for refrigerant, wiring and drainage. Each cassette is controlled independently, allowing temperatures to be adjusted for each room.

Advantages of Ductless Systems

Ductless units can be purchased as air conditioners or as heat pumps that provide both heating and cooling.

Ductless units use less power to operate. Ducted systems can lose up to 30 percent of conditioned air through leaks. Ductless systems typically reduce energy usage by 30 to 40 percent. When a room is not in use, the cassette can be switched off.

Mini-split units are easy to install. The indoor cassette can be positioned on any wall, hung from the ceiling or incorporated into a drop ceiling. Floor-mounted units are also available. Some models allow up to four cassettes to be connected to one compressor.

Ductless units are quiet. The indoor unit only blows air. The compressor can be placed as far as 50 feet away from the indoor unit in a convenient location outside.
